BOILER & CHILLER EXAMPLES

  • Boiler Example
    A 200-horsepower boiler, operating at 100 psig, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with clean boiler tubes, burning natural gas costing $7.00/1,000 cubic feet, will have an annual fuel budget of $581,744 for operation. An eggshell deposit (generally defined as 1/32-inch) on the boiler tubes, will cost an additional $23,271 to $69,813 per year to operate, depending on the impurities in the deposit.

  • Chiller Example
    A 500-Ton chiller, operating 12 hours a day, 240 days a year, with clean condenser tubes, with an electric cost of $0.08/kilowatt hour, will have an annual energy budget of $86,400. A 1/64-inch deposit on the condenser tubes, will cost an additional $12,960 to $21,600 per year to operate. Microbiological films can easily double the cost of these figures.

Please note that the cost of demand charges are not included in these estimates. Such costs vary greatly by customer, and actual costs must be included in the calculations to fully quantify the wasted energy dollars.

 

Solid Water Treatment History

HOW SYSTEMS WERE TRADITIONALLY TREATED

In the middle of the 20th century, the process for treating cooling water and boiler systems was to utilize various powdered chemical materials mixed with water at the facility where the chemicals were to be applied. To deal with hazardous splash and spillage side effects, some firms in the 1960s and 1970s began mixing powdered chemicals with water in a manufacturing facility under more controlled circumstances. This process caught on, and liquid products became the standard method for treating the water in cooling and heating systems.

Generally, these liquid water treatment chemicals are delivered by tanker truck or common carrier trucks and proportionally dosed to the respective systems by utilizing a variety of pumps.

BLENDED SOLID CONCENTRATE PRODUCTS TO THE RESCUE

Almost 15 years ago, in answer to these challenges and limitations, APTech Group developed the technology to manufacture and distribute blended solid concentrate water treatment products for cooling water, boilers, and closed loop systems.

This process enables combining several components into one blended solid concentrate product. The resulting mixture of proven combinations takes the form of hard solid substance. These products are manufactured in a variety of configurations including discs, sticks, tablets and the most popular form – in gallon size recyclable plastic bottles. These products can be applied straight from the container using patented dispensing systems. No mixing is required.
